Electronic Display Board A programmable message board that uses LED (see definition below) light modules to produce displays and graphics. Also called Digital Message Boards, they can be programmed using a PC (personal computer) that is either hard wired to the sign or remote located via a modem.

Embossed Copy Raised copy off of a formed face. Provides additional rigidity and depth to a formed face. |

Formed Face Lexan or Acrylic that is heated and vacuum formed over a mold. A Formed Face gives rigidity and depth to the face of a sign. It also helps prevent “bowing” of a sign face. |

Jewelite Trimcap 1” wide trim that is chemically bonded to plexiglass face then mechanically fastened to return of letter. |

LED (Light Emitting Diode) An energy efficient, low voltage light source used to light signs. LED technology is used in traffic lights. |

Monument Sign A ground mounted sign that is usually less than 10' in overall height.

Multi-Tenant Sign A sign that displays the names of tenant located in a shopping center or building.

Neon Gas filled glass tubes with electrodes on each end. When electricity is sent through the glass tube, the gas is charged and emits different colors of immense light depending upon what type of glass is used.

Plate Letters Aluminum letters that are cut out of sheets of ¼” thick aluminum using a computer system. Aluminum letters can be painted, drilled, have their backs tapped, and mounted to any surface using threaded studs and silicone adhesive. |

Plexiglass Face 3/16” thick, pigmented translucent plastic. |

Pylon Sign A sign, usually pole mounted, that is at least 10’ in overall height.

Raceway A Rigid aluminum trough that conceals electrical components of signs and acts as a mounting bar to attach letters to building. Usually painted to match the wall it is mounted to.

Readerboard A changeable message board that utilizes a font of letters and clear letter track to hold the letters in place.

Return 5” deep aluminum side of sign that attaches letter face to back of sign. |

Transformer Electrical component designed to “step up” or “step down” voltages. Transformers are hi-voltage generating devices required to illuminate a neon sign. It can be concealed in raceways, inside of large letters, or in weatherproof boxes remotely located inside the building the sign containing the transformer is mounted to. |

Tube Support Glass or metal bracket used to hold neon tube off the back of a channel letter. Tube supports are mechanically fastened to the back of the letter. |

Way Finding Sign Signage primarily designed to direct people or vehicles to a certain destination.
